Position Summary

As an Assistant Farm Manager, you’ll work with our team of Farm Managers to oversee crop activities, including irrigation, pest control, planting, harvesting, and tillage. This position has significant autonomy and requires a broad skill-set, including general management capability, attention to detail, "get-it-done" attitude, superior interpersonal skills and in-depth agricultural experience. While this position primarily focuses on our crops in Bakersfield, there may be times when assistance is needed at other locations.

The Assistant Farm Manager works with the location Farm Manager to effectively manage planting and harvest equipment for approximately 6,000 acres of ground for potatoes and various vegetables annually.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Support field operations, including tillage, planting, cultivation, harvest, and cover crop establishment
  • Execute agronomic activities in coordination with the Farm Manager including scheduling of irrigation, fertilizer applications, and chemical applications
  • Coordinate potato shipping activities to deliver excellent customer service and quality
  • Facilitate situational work direction to seasonal, contract employees
  • Ensure company policies and procedures are followed by employees
  • Consistently communicate with the Farm Manager about farm activities, challenges and innovative solutions
  • Coordinate purchasing of supplies, equipment, and inputs
  • Adhere to irrigation constraints and oversee all rotational crop production and disposition

Experience and Skills:

Required Position Qualifications

  • Demonstrated strong work-ethic, outstanding leadership ability and exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is required
  • Bachelors of Science degree in an Agriculture related program
  • 1 - 3 years of experience managing agricultural programs over a large geographic region
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of work time
  • Self-directed individual who leads projects to identify and implement solutions with team input
  • Demonstrated experience working with irrigated crops
  • Adaptability to changing situations with the ability to perform multiple tasks, with multiple priorities
  • Proficient in the use of Windows based computer programs (Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and a general aptitude with software systems
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to train and work with operational personnel on the farm
  • Superior organizational and project management skills and experience working with employees
  • Ability to acquire and hold a valid US driver’s license and successfully pass vehicle insurance verification
  • Candidates must be eligible to work unrestricted in the U.S. without company sponsorship
  • Ability to comprehend, read, write and communicate proficiently in English and interact with all levels of the organization.
